Ask one question of every sunscreen claim: what evidence matches this exact outcome? An ingredient list may support a formula description; a finished test supports protection; documented use supports appearance and comfort.

Protection, appearance and tolerance need different proof
The BIS SPF method measures a finished product under controlled application conditions. BIS SPF method PA grades are tied to measured UVA-PF bands in their originating system. JCIA PA standard Neither test predicts cast or eye sting.
Conversely, a photograph can document a cast under stated conditions but cannot prove SPF. Consumer use notes can describe comfort but do not establish universal tolerance.
Match the report to the product
Even the right test type is not enough when the report belongs to another market, formula, batch identity or date. Check the exact product name, sample description, method, result, laboratory and whether the current ingredient declaration still matches.
What we could not verify
“Dermatologist tested”, “clinically tested”, “reef safe”, “clean”, “sweat-proof” and “all-day” are too vague to interpret without the brand’s defined method, outcome and market context. The words themselves are not a test report.
Bottom line
Do not demand one grand proof for a sunscreen. Demand the right evidence for each claim, tied to the exact finished product a consumer can buy.
