Why sunscreen stings the eyes—and what you can change

Eye sting can involve product migration, the complete formula, sweat and individual sensitivity. An ingredient blacklist cannot reliably predict it.

The complete formula matters

Practical changes to try

  • Leave a small margin around the lash line while still covering the surrounding exposed skin.
  • Apply in thin, even passes and let the film settle before heat or activity.
  • Avoid rubbing the eyes after application.
  • During heavy sweat, use a hat, shade and another suitable format around the eyes.
