What zinc oxide contributes

Zinc oxide particles can contribute across ultraviolet wavelengths when they are properly dispersed in a sunscreen film. SPF and UVA protection belong to the finished product at a defined application amount. Two formulas containing the same zinc oxide percentage can differ in dispersion, film uniformity and supporting ingredients. The ingredient list cannot reproduce the finished-product test.

Particle form and format matter

US and EU rules identify zinc oxide under their own sunscreen frameworks. The EU conditions distinguish specified nano forms and applications that can expose the lungs by inhalation.
